The Threatening Light: The Living Word

Join us online or on site at St Martin’s each Wednesday evening during Lent, as Neil MacGregor leads a reflection on a painting from the National Gallery in the context of Bread for the World, an informal Eucharist.

Neil is a world-renowned art historian, former director of both the National Gallery and the British Museum, and currently an international museum advisor. Widely renowned for his BBC Radio Series The History of the World in 100 Objects and Living with the Gods, and the exhibition Seeing Salvation, Neil MacGregor has explored and articulated how art and sacred images not only reflect and shape religious belief but also challenge our humanity and our response to the Gospel narratives. This Lent series aims to lead you to look more deeply at seven masterpieces in the National Gallery collection and the narratives they tell, and to respond to their meaning and challenge for us today.
