Anhad Arora (harpsichord)

This programme explores the vibrant world of early German keyboard music that shaped J. S. Bach’s own style and imagination.

It opens with the exuberant invention of his G major Toccata from where the lineage of this energy is traced through pieces by Bach’s North German predecessors and contemporaries. The programme culminates in Bach’s Toccata in D, with all the drama and structural mastery of Bach’s incredible output for keyboard.

Aleksandra Myslek (piano)

Polish pianist Aleksandra Myslek traces her rich and varied musical career with a recital that evokes her influences and experiences.

From the much-loved Chopin’s Heroic Polonaise to honoring her late teacher, Hamish Milne, with glimmering works by Medtner, she also nods to her best friend, fortepianist Emil Duncumb, with rarely heard, charming Mozart variations ‘Salve tu, Domine’. Some of the most inspired Liszt transcriptions of songs and operatic repertoire serve as an invitation into her love of voice, and Chopin’s own favourite work, the deeply romantic Ballade No. 1, will serve as a final acknowledgment of her Chopin-filled early education.

The English Concert: Handel’s Hercules

Join The English Concert for Handel’s powerful and moving opera, Hercules, a timeless story of love, jealousy, and betrayal.

Fresh from his triumphant return from battle, the great hero Hercules is celebrated, but his victory is overshadowed by a tragic twist of fate. His wife, Dejanira, portrayed by Ann Hallenberg, is consumed by a mistrustful jealousy that unleashes a chain of events, ultimately bringing the mighty hero to his knees.

With its soaring arias and powerful choruses, this opera is a masterclass in dramatic storytelling. The stellar cast includes soprano Hilary Cronin as the captive Iole and acclaimed countertenor Hugh Cutting as the devoted Lichas. Thomas Broughton’s libretto draws from Ovid and Sophocles, reminding us that even the strongest and most celebrated can be undone by the most human of emotions.

Conductor Harry Bicket leads The English Concert in this stunning performance, collaborating once again with New York’s sensational The Clarion Choir. Together, with this renowned line-up of Handel singers, they bring this emotionally charged work to life. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of Handel’s most compelling operas.

Florian Störtz & Aleksandra Myslek: Sturmnacht – Walking through the Tempest

Join bass-baritone Florian Störtz and pianist Aleksandra Myslek on a musical journey as they celebrate the release of their new album, Harbingers of Exile. This unique programme sets Schumann’s Kerner Lieder alongside the beautifully crafted songs of Robert Kahn, a German-Jewish composer whose eloquent late-romantic works have been rediscovered and brought back to life.

Kahn’s celebrated career was tragically cut short by the rise of fascism, causing his music to vanish from public reception. Forced into exile, he spent the last years of his life in Biddenden, Kent, and his once-popular works were unjustly neglected. This concert is an opportunity to hear his magnificent music performed with the passion and sensitivity it deserves.

Praised by Sir John Tomlinson as “… two passionate, sensitive artists completely united and immersed in song. Most satisfying,” Florian Störtz and Aleksandra Myslek bring a profound connection to this music. Don’t miss this chance to experience a truly special concert that revives the legacy of a forgotten master that shares a story as compelling as the music itself.
